PETER HIMMELMAN’S MY GREEN
KITE
NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY® AWARD
TOP 2007 AWARDS FOR PARENTS’ CHOICE AND
NAPPA
Cambridge, MA – Rounder Records is pleased to announce that Peter
Himmelman’s My Green Kite has been nominated for a 2008
Grammy® Award in the “Best Musical Album for Children” Category. The awards
ceremony will take place on February 10th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live on the
CBS Television Network at 8pm EST.
My Green Kite has also won two national 2007 Awards from
Parents’ Choice and NAPPA, the National Parenting Publications. Among the many
critical accolades for the CD, the Philadelphia Inquirer called it “a
disarming family music album that delights in the simple joys of childhood and
teaches simple life lessons.” Chicago Parent said, “Peter Himmelman
raises the bar for all children’s music artists… this is children’s music at its
best.”
Himmelman was happy to hear about the recognition from the Recording
Academy saying “There's an amazing degree of uplift when you're writing songs
about feet, your mother's excellent cooking, or the simple joys of floating
popsicle sticks down the gutter after a summer rain.”
My Green Kite offers 12 quirky pop infused melodies with
all-ages appeal. From the first track, “Feet,” listeners will be tapping toes
and singing along to Himmelman’s anthemic refrains. Fly along with “My Green
Kite” and discover the wonder of a simple breakfast food with the song, “Have
You Ever Really Looked at an Egg?” The tunes lead listeners into a whimsical
world where cows question the meaning of existence and a kid professor can
determine how fast a fish can throw a baseball. Some songs delve into the
realities of family life, as we see from “Maybe Is a Bad Word,” “I Made It for
You” and the touching song, “My Father’s an Accountant.” All in all, the songs
offer a witty celebration of the wonder and magic behind the most ordinary
things.
